The Chicago Association of REALTORS® is proud to announce the newest addition to their Industry Partners program, the newly-formed Chicago chapter of the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP). VAREP initially held an exploratory meeting at the C.A.R. headquarters on February 25 and has since officially launched its local chapter.
VAREP aims to provide a space where real estate and financial service professionals can share ideas, get education and be empowered to better serve the real estate needs of service members, veterans and their families. The organization is dedicated to increasing sustainable homeownership, financial-literacy education, VA loan awareness and economic opportunity for the active-military and veteran communities.
Illinois has the 10th largest veteran population in the United States, with over 700,000 veterans. 54,707 of these are women veterans, the fastest growing population, which is expected to grow by 15 percent by 2035. 75 percent of all Illinois veterans are considered wartime or “combat” veterans.
“The Chicago Association of REALTORS® has been a longtime supporter of education for our REALTORS® on the many programs and services available for veterans,” Ginger Downs, C.A.R.’s Chief Executive Officer, said. “We formed the first ‘Heroes Welcome Home’ course in 2008, which has since adapted into the Military Relocation Professional designation. We welcome VAREP to Chicago and are thrilled to partner with them to help fulfill their mission.”
“We are honored to be an Industry Partner of C.A.R.’s, and we look forward to working together to help service men and women, as well as veterans, achieve the dream of home ownership in the Chicagoland area,” David Piatek, President of the Chicago chapter of VAREP, said.
The Chicago Association of REALTORS® will also be offering REALTORS® Real Estate School Pre-Licensing Scholarships to 100 veterans to help them begin a new career in real estate.
