City of Chicago’s Department of Buildings Announces New Building Code Interpretations

On November 9, 2018, The City of Chicago’s Department of Buildings updated its Chicago Building Code interpretations. A memo from the Department says the new interpretations will address:
    • Prior Code Interpretations and Memos (A10-2018-001), which addresses the continuing effect of specific code clarifications, interpretations and memos issued by the Department prior to 2018
    •  2018 Update to Illinois Accessibility Code (B11-2018-001) to describe how the department will implement 2018 changes to the Illinois Accessibility Code in plan review and inspections.
    • Noncombustible Exterior Walls (B14-2018-001) addresses the limited use of combustible materials in the exterior walls of buildings of Type I, II and III construction and specifically addresses the use of Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS), Metal Composite Materials (MCM) and High-Pressure Laminates (HPL)
