Annual Survey 2008 Part I – Member Services
The Chicago Association of REALTORS® distributed this survey to learn members’ thoughts on C.A.R. Member Services. The survey was distributed via email to all C.A.R. REALTOR® and Designated REALTOR® members. A total of 1002 members responded. Here are a few highlights:
- 71% of respondents were sales agents, 18% were owners, 5% were managing brokers, and 7% identified themselves as “other.”
- 50% of those surveyed were between the ages of 43 and 61, 27% were between 31 and 42 years of age, 13% were between 18 and 30, and 10% were over 62 years of age.
- 33% of respondents’ offices are located on Chicago’s North side, 25% located downtown, 12% on the city’s Northwest side, and 11% on the South side.
- 53% of members surveyed are relatively new, with 28% becoming members between three and five years ago, and 25% becoming members in the last two years. 18% have been C.A.R. members for upwards of 16 years.
- The C.A.R. Central location is the most utilized branch, with 34% of respondents using this branch, and 26% use the C.A.R. North office. 18% use the C.A.R. Northwest office, 15% use the C.A.R. South office, and 8% claim they don’t use any C.A.R. office.
- 60% of those surveyed prefer contacting Member Services by telephone, with only 8% preferring to meet with Member Services in-person at a C.A.R. branch.

Annual Survey 2008 Part II – Communications and Advocacy
The Chicago Association of REALTORS® distributed this survey to learn members’ thoughts on C.A.R.’s Communications and Advocacy initiatives. The survey was distributed via email to all C.A.R. REALTOR® and Designated REALTOR® members. A total of 835 members responded.
- 43% of respondents receive their C.A.R. News through weekly E-blasts, such as the Connection, while 32% rely on the ChicagoREALTOR.com Web site for news.
- 77% of those surveyed would not change the frequency of E-blasts they receive from C.A.R.
- 80% of respondents regularly read the bi-monthly Chicago REALTOR® Magazine, and stories on real estate trends and business tips are the most popular articles in each issue.
- 65% of those surveyed do not participate in any Social Networking initiatives.
- Of respondents who do participate in Social Networking, LinkedIn and Facebook are the most popular sites.
- With regards to Advocacy, 67% of those surveyed regularly respond to C.A.R.’s “Calls to Action.”
- 79% of respondents feel taxes are the most important policy issue facing Chicago REALTORS®, followed by fines and fees (48%) and affordable housing (45%).

Annual Survey 2008 Part III – Education and Programs
The Chicago Association of REALTORS® distributed this survey to learn members’ thoughts on C.A.R.’s Education and Programs Departments. The survey was distributed via email to all C.A.R. REALTOR® and Designated REALTOR® members. A total of 781 members responded.
- Of the respondents, 67% prefer classroom courses for their real estate education needs, while 44% prefer online courses.
- 56% of those surveyed are interested in taking Mandatory Continuing Education courses through the REALTORS® Real Estate School (RRES).
- 44% are interested in Introduction to Short Sales classes.
- 44% of respondents would like RRES to offer a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation.
- 36% would like RRES to offer a Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designation.
- 91% of those surveyed prefer receiving updates about RRES through Email.
- 44% of respondents attend programs that provide them with information, such as the Economic Forecast and Member Outreach Programs.
- 29% attend networking programs.
- Of those surveyed, 42% are fluent in Spanish, and 13% are fluent in Polish.
