Chicago Association of REALTORS® Education Foundation (CAREF)

Higher Education Scholarship

The Higher Education Scholarship is awarded up to five students annually and is available to REALTORS® or immediate family members of REALTORS®. Scholarship awards are based on the applicant’s indication of interest in pursuing a career in the real estate industry and letters of recommendation. All applicants must be a resident of the State of Illinois.

Scholarship Requirements

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED at the time of application
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of funding
  • Must be attending a 2-4 year accredited school in the State of Illinois and enrolled in a program of Real Estate study/focus
  • Applicant or the immediate REALTOR® family member of the applicant must be a member of the Chicago Association of REALTORS® in good standing for at least one (1) year

Award Amount

  • $2000-$4000 paid directly to the institution

How to Apply

All of the following must be submitted along with the scholarship application form:

  1. A typed, signed statement of your general activities and intellectual interests, of your activities and employment (if any), of your contemplated line of study, and of the career you expect to follow in pursuing a career in real estate or an allied field (i.e., construction, land use planning, mortgage banking, property management, real estate appraising, real estate assessing, real estate brokerage, real estate development, real estate investment counseling, real estate law, real estate syndication) [This statement should not exceed 500 words in length and should be written in as simple and direct a manner as possible.)
  2. Your proposed program of study, including a brief description of each course you plan to pursue in working for the degree indicated with the approval of this program, signed by the Dean or appropriate official of the college in which you work is to be done.
  3. A typed statement from the real estate instructor, or if none, the Dean of your college recommending you as an applicant.
  4. Official copies of transcripts of all your collegiate records (certified by the Registrar or some other responsible official) of the course you have taken.
  5. Typed letters of recommendation from two persons. It is preferred, but not required, that one of these letters be from a REALTOR®. (Replies from these references are to be sent directly to the Foundation, are confidential, and under no circumstances to be revealed to the candidate.

A fully completed application must be accompanied by all supporting documents. Copies of the applicant's transcripts and all letters of recommendation and reference must be sent directly to the Education Foundation's office. Only fully completed applications will be considered.
