C.A.R. Government Affairs Committee Discusses Smoking and HOAs

On Friday, the C.A.R. Government Affairs Committee welcomed attorney and Chicago Tribune contributor Mark Pearlstein to present issues surrounding smoking and homeowners associations. Discussion addressed the pros and cons of the Smoke Free Illinois Act, which some associations are using as the basis for smoking regulation, including building-wide bans. Daley this week proposed to the City Council a balanced 2011 budget that makes government more efficient, continues to provide basic services, and adds limited new spending to make neighborhoods safer, help grow Chicago’s economy and create new jobs. NAR Assesses Federal Tax Benefits for Homeowners

A new NAR research commentary examines the mortgage interest deduction (MID) and state and local property taxes deduction as two federal income tax benefits for home owners. The report looks at both deductions together from the individual home buyer’s perspective, to assess how the lifecycle of ownership affects the deductions a home owner takes and how the benefits may translate differently among tax payers of various age categories.
